THE CCMHS PROJECT

The CCMHS is the product of an evidence-based research project carried out between November 2017 and January 2020. This has allowed us to make decisions about the care and services offered within the CCMHS based on sound inquiry. We wish to express our deepest gratitude to our stakeholders, researchers, board of directors, practitioners, service-users, and community partners who contributed to designing, implementing, and evaluating the first integrated, sport-centered mental health care model for Canadian competitive and high-performance athletes and coaches.

Phase 1: Design

November 2017 - August 2018

In the Design Phase, the CCMHS team established the structure of the CCMHS, the collaborative mental health service delivery model, and the team of practitioners who implemented the model with athletes and coaches. The CCMHS, including the sport-specific model of care, is the first of its kind in Canada.

Phase 2: Implementation

September 2018 - June 2019

During the implementation phase, the team of practitioners applied the mental health service delivery model with competitive and high-performance athletes and coaches. Athletes and coaches struggling with their mental health and meeting the eligibility criteria received integrated, specialized care.

Phase 3: Evaluation

July 2019 - January 2020

During the evaluation phase, the overall effectiveness of the mental health service delivery model was assessed based on the gathered evidence. Based on service-users’ and practitioners’ experiences, perspectives, and recommendations, the model was deemed effective (i.e., appropriate and acceptable). Some adaptations were nonetheless suggested to improve the model.

THANK YOU TO OUR STAKEHOLDERS WHO PROVIDED VALUABLE INPUT DURING THE RESEARCH PROJECT!

Stakeholders provided critical perspectives and competencies across one or multiple phases of the CCMHS Project. Representing coaches, athletes, mental health practitioners, researchers, sport administrators and therapists, these stakeholders had an incredible wealth of experience and knowledge, bringing both breadth and depth to the research team.
