Mental Health Strategy
In the wake of accruing scientific evidence and athlete testimonials uncovering the importance of mental health in high performance (HP) sport, as well as existing gaps in the Canadian health care and HP sport system, a Mental Health Strategy for High Performance Sport in Canada [i.e., The Strategy] was developed. The Strategy was established based on a critical review of the scientific literature and national and international mental health reports, with careful consideration of the Canadian sport context. The work was conducted by several leaders and partners from the HP sport and mental health domains (i.e., Mental Health Partner Group, Mental Health Expert Group, Mental Health Review Group, Sport Community Group).
The primary aim of the Strategy is to improve mental health outcomes for all Canadian HP athletes, coaches, and staff. The Strategy was officially launched in July 2021 and is accessible here.
